Biography

"My music is my heart and when I sing, that is what I'm delivering. I see beauty and magic in everyday reality, so enjoy telling stories with my lyrics, incorporating them with acoustic, live instruments, and plenty of vocal harmonies. My music combines the two most important things I strive for - love and music. I write from what I have experienced and the emotions that are present. I feel that although our experiences may differ, we are all the same in what we feel, so hopefully I can reach a place in you that we all share." ~ Kiyomi

Kiyomi is quickly establishing herself as an acclaimed songwriter, vocalist, and pianist. Her recent Hot Indie Records 2008 release, "A Part of Me", has caused a sensation among her fans all over the world. Many have responded to her music calling it “innovative” and "refreshing", and her voice is described as "pure" and "angelic". Others have responded saying the music touched their souls somehow and caused them tears.

As a child, Kiyomi's life was lonely and unstable at times. However being born into an extremely musical family, she found solace and a way to express herself in music through singing and piano. Singing, her main love, has always been a way in which to escape into a safe, hope-filled world.

Music has always played a main role in Kiyomi's life, as early as she can remember. She won the "Best Musician's Award" in high school, and from there went on to NYU as a classical voice major. She is currently attending SUNY Purchase for composition.

Kiyomi’s music has also worked its way into the mainstream. She can be heard on stations such as 'Women of Substance Radio' (Live 365), and 88.3 FM 'The Saint'. Her live performances have also been aired in Manhattan on MNN, and Bronx net, and her music videos for "My Place" and "Little Girl Smiling" have been aired on Video City TV.

She has performed extensively, all across the US, including performances for foreign ambassadors and members of the UN. She's also had the opportunity to perform in Japan and Korea. She’s performed in venues all over Westchester County, and at NYC venues such as "The Bitter End" and "The Alphabet Lounge", to name a few.

Kiyomi likes to incorporate her music with natural and acoustic sounding instruments, and loves to play around with vocal harmonies, adding plenty of them to her compositions. Her influences or inspirations can mean almost anything, really. Life is probably the biggest one of all. Most of her songs are written from what she’s experienced, sometimes straight out of the 17 or so journals she’s written. Writing is a way she makes sense of all that happens in life. Her slight book reading obsession contributes greatly to whom she is as well, influencing her music. People, everything about what makes somebody human, she finds intriguing and sometimes inspiring.

Kiyomi will always continue to write and perform, as music is a part of her. She wishes that her music will continue to touch people, as genuinely written music can. Although her songs acknowledge hardships, they usually end on a hopeful note, if not in the lyrics then in the melody line or chord progression. Hopefully her listeners will end on that note too.
